It's currently the one sector with quantities of spare money to spend on sponsorship, in an area where they have guaranteed potential customers.

Dodgy loan companies have gone down the pan, beer is frowned upon and tobacco is right out. Local builders can no longer stump up the cash and large businesses use more sophisticated methods (especially as only Sky customers now get to see the logos on TV for any length of time).

It's an epidemic, exacerbated hugely by online betting, and one which the government is being very slow to react to.

I fear we'll start to see the true scale of the problem, and its consequences, over the next decade or so.
