Some 80s photos of East London and Docklands here on 09:53 - May 7 with 1533 views | WeWereZombies | That's the first time I have seen Leytonstone High Road not chokka with queuing traffic. And I do miss the old Liverpool Street.

I have a few bookmarks of old photos as I now live in the area and historically my Dad's side of the family come from round here. This is a great one if you've not seen it, very Wapping and Docklands heavy though. https://www.flickr.com/photos/dmcl/sets/1013230/with/46401207/

I have a very vague recollection of Liverpool Street in the 80s, mainly it being big and dirty but think there was only one occasion I would have got the train to London as a kid.

Everything happened so quickly, I can't remember the year but I will never forget when I drove down there in the trusty Nissan Violet SSS and it had turned into a pile of nothing.

Even the Millennium Dome going up seems like ancient history now, something very poignant about that collection of photos. I am reminded of a couple of old films by them, a 1950s British go at the type of neo-realist drama that was coming of Italy called 'Pool of London' which features, amongst other things, James Robertson Justice deciding that the best thing to do after a long sea voyage is to settle down with a book of poetry and a bottle of whisky, and the first mixed-race romance in British films: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0042851/ And, of course, 'The Long Good Friday': https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081070/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 [Post edited 7 May 2019 14:57]

This TV show which I loved dearly completely encapsulates the time of the Docklands change. Highly recommended, well worth buying. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Prospects-Complete-DVD-Gary-Olsen/dp/B009OIYC4Y
