Just our entire ecosystem which allows all living creatures to survive at stake. Humanity will never thrive in these conditions, one would argue it never really has.

We were making great strides as well (in no little part due to EU legislation). I'm the best part of 10 years out of that line of work, but when I stopped the rivers were in a much better position than previously with many success stories of the spread of sensitive species. Sounds like it's all going to sh*t (literally).

As an angler it’s always upsetting to hear cases of pollution in rivers - it is often completely devastating to many forms of wildlife as well as fish. For smaller rivers, water extraction has also long been a major issue, with subsequent low levels and reduced flow rates in summer negatively impacting fish life. In angling terms though I’m a bit surprised to hear his opinions about the Wye. The Wye, like many of our larger river systems (Trent, Severn and the Norfolk Broads), has seen dramatic improvements in the fishing over the last few years.
