So, I quoted that whole 'listen to go long term' thing... 16:45 - Feb 3 with 623 viewsBlueBadger

...then I decided to go back and re-read the article.

Change a a few names and nothing has changed.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Scarily similar. Almost a decade later and we’re still a shambles, albeit a league lower.

"The fear that Keane instilled in his players seemed to stifle them on the pitch: under Jewell, levels of motivation and engagement slid steadily away, to the point where whichever collection of half-fit strangers he cobbled together for his last few games in charge simply wandered around the pitch looking confused."

To be honest, re-reading that mess Jewell left at the end of his time here still seems worse than where we are now.

The last paragraph of Mr Barber's article though shows exactly why we are back in a very similar situation - and who it comes down to.

For those unable to click through at the moment, it reads:

'Paul Jewell isn’t the cause of Ipswich Town’s problems, but he is a very prominent symptom. He’s a symptom of an administration that shows no regard for the need for a football club to have foundations as well as a fascia; a chief executive (Simon Clegg) whose every action and pronouncement further emphasises his lack of understanding of the bond between a club and its fans; an owner (Marcus Evans) who expects instant results and doesn’t understand why someone who once looked like a Successful Manager, and who was apparently recommended to Evans by his friends on the golf course, can’t magically make Ipswich look like a Successful Football Club. In that context, Jewell was little more than a facsimile of a manager: a composite Good Bloke and Experienced Pro who might as well have been a cardboard cut-out for all the strategic or tactical benefit he brought to the club. His successor will have the immediate priority of keeping Town in the Championship, but if he’s to have any chance of reversing Town’s seemingly unstoppable decline, he’ll need to be given a mandate to think beyond the end of the next accounting cycle.'

Scary, inciteful, nail on head. The fact that this was written nearly 8 years ago, and yet could have been written last week, is just plain depressing.

Demonstrates that the next manager needs to be a miracle worker to operate with Evans in charge. As MM was for the most part.

The first team wage budget is big for League One, small but not the smallest in the Championship. To get promotion from the Championship we'd need a miracle worker. To get into the Championship and remain there just someone competent.
