How to beat a press in league one 01:12 - Oct 3 with 1352 views | BondiBlue | When accrington/cheltenham/whoever start cranking up the pressure by putting high balls into your box and stopping you playing out by pressing, the answer is to go longer. It blows my mind that we went longer all game but persisted with a number ten (and the 10.5 that is fraser), who just watched it sail over their heads the whole time. Norwood and edwards should have been on shortly after half time when it became obvious what was about to unfold. To be fair, cook made the right substitutions but why wait until we're losing (and the opposition sit back a bit and rge space in behind isn't there any more)? It would have been a proactive way of scoring more goals to do it earlier. Worrying that he didn't see this. I'm suspicious that, like lambert and evans' insistence on playing out from the back, cook feels under pressure to play football like we're top-end championship. Needs to be more practical.

Hey, this is a very patronising response to a decent, thoughtful piece of game analysis. It's cool if you disagree, but to belittle people when they're simply trying to engage in worthwhile discussion is not nice. I hope you can sort through whatever the underlying issue is that caused you to post this, and enjoy your Sunday.

How to beat a press in league one on 08:19 - Oct 3 with 1056 views | gordon | Think just moving the ball quickly is key, having lots of width, having centre-backs who are comfortable on the ball and can pick a pass, doesn't have to be long, but really at this standard it's hard to get all that right. Completely agree that leaving two number 10s on in a game like that seemed like naivety, over-confidence or hubris, and they made very little contribution apart from for the goal.

Cook took ages to get his idea over and only from January did pompey click to his tune. The problem we found was that we played left across midfield defence and the right and left and right before going slightly longer forcing the issue. We looked dangerous when the opposition had a corner, stupid really. But the answer clicked in January. Everytime a player runs with the ball the opposition have time and can close you down. In January our players actually stopped running when they received the ball and passed. The running was off the ball. As soon as Ipswich players start passing the ball and move and not running with it, teams will part like the sea for moses. It was a revelation and we literally tore teams apart with our passing. 18 games unbeaten with 16 wins can not be argued with in any league. Fantastic to watch as well. Good luck Pompey fan

Like the sound of it but don't think we have the players for that. Not sure about edmundson and burgess passing short into midfield unless carroll's going to come and take it off their toes. I'd hate to see bonne stop playing on the shoulder, as he's very good at it. If fraser, morsy and bonne all drop it may start to resemble lambert-ball.
