Pathway 14:39 - Aug 17 with 1015 views | cressi | For people saying not a pathway at this club completely Untrue Gibby when our new owners came in the old regime had let Gibbs contract get to the point he could talk to other clubs when they came in the horse had bolted Simpson as said half a good season at Swindon, Luton wanted him and he decided he wanted out , but he would probably been in the same boat there out on loan. Humpreys signed a new contract maybe he will go on loan Come back an even player and rip it up Ndaba how can you play if you don't believe his better than already on the pitch All the players mentioned are they better than who's starting now maybe in time one or two maybe Patience required

I think you do sometimes have to leave spaces, show a bit of trust/faith, if you ever want to incorporate talented lads in your first team.

You can't say "man's" league! Look at the trouble Graham Souness got into.

However, Pathway doesn’t mean guaranteed position in first XI. It means there is a development plan in place to give you a chance to be good and ready in 12,24 whatever months, that can include loans and hitting development milestones which could translate as first team rewards or monetary rewards. Essentially those on a pathway are considered high potential young players worth investing in, they are probably intelligent enough to know that we are L1 and there is only so much to learn in U18/U23 football, probably have a first team mentor and they probably don’t act like they know it all at 19 because they know bigger rewards come later. Equally, Simpson and Ndaba hardly lack physicality and Humphreys is very athletic. Would we be hugely diminished if the versatile Ndaba sits on the bench last night instead of Burgess (hypothetically, Ndaba's injured) or if Humphreys replaces one of the three wing backs? Not for me. If we have to replace a centre midfielder are we much more robust if we're moving Aluko back (as I assume was our fall back last night) than if we're bringing Humphreys on? Not really. With our financial strength, I think you have to open up those sorts of spots at the end of your pathway or you'll just never integrate these players.

Pathway on 15:34 - Aug 17 with 762 views | davblue | i've heard in the underage teams they don't have enough staff to run it properly at the minute. A few parents are concerned about this and have looked at potential moves for their children. Klug is on his way and all spare funding has been diverted to the 1st team to get us up. It's not all hunky dory, if we take away our focus on youth development and the owners pull their funding, then the life blood of your club is taken away (I know it's not been massively successful recently)

I do agree with you in general, but even Elkan Baggott was pushed off the ball a few times when he maid his very impressive first team appearances, it is a real shame that more cannot break through to the first team.

However, some of those will still be taken by clubs that can make better offers than we are able to - that is the nature of where we are. Couple that with the fact we are below where our funding should put us, a player has to be good enough to play above where we are to break into the first team. Together, this means we have a small niche of players who are likely to come through at the moment. I would love us to get the academy to something like it used to be or Southampton's for example but it will take time. In our current squad we have Wolfenden then Ndaba, Humphreys, El Mizouni and Baggott have the possibility of becoming part of it. I wouldn't be too surprised if one or two of those 4 do make it with us. It is now for the academy to prove its worth supplying 1 or 2 more seasons than it doesn't.
