I listened to it on the drive up to N Wales this afternoon. Passed the time, but Villa sounded shocking. Had most of the ball in the first half as WH were set up quite defensive, but had no clue what to do with it according to R5 live. Moyes changed things up at half time and from then on dominated. Villa didn’t/couldn’t change thing to counter by the sounds of it. Relegation fodder?

(No idea if that’s a fair assessment for anyone who watched it).

That's pretty accurate. Aston villa arnt currently firing and would appear to have some in house issues. West ham are a decent side but in reality are probably no more than a mid table prem side.

The worry for villa is that they've now lost to bournemouth, west ham and cpfc so they still have all the big guns to play

Seems like Michael Beale was important to the success Gerrard has had thus far. I wonder if he is another like Clough or Cook that needs his right-hand man.

It's interesting that Beale has traded Prem AM for Champ Man whilst Critchley has traded Champ Man for Prem AM. QPR and Blackpool do seem to be two clubs going in oppositie directions though. Although maybe it says something about the respective level of their aspirations.

Very famous though.

How's his pressers?

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

It's quite satisfying to see him flounder after he threw Mings under the bus and the likes of Souness started denigrating his character with no substance at all.

Villa were awful yesterday (I was there with my Villa supporting son).

They have an expensive set of midfielders and strikers that Gerrard seems to have no clear idea as to which combination and formation will work best. He’s really struggling in that respect, and the result is slow and laboured progress up the pitch. Given the assets at his disposal, they should be doing better.

Yesterday the crowd started to turn on him after the goal.

In terms of Mings, there’s some inaccuracies creeping in here. Mings was inconsistent and patchy last season and it was no surprise to me that a player of Diego Carlos’s standing was signed as competition. Carlos was seriously injured in the second game of the season whilst playing alongside a recalled Tyrone Mings. Undoubtedly Mings would have played against West Ham but was left out due to illness we are led to believe. I don’t think Gerrard rates him but given his occasional indiscipline and lapses in concentration Mings doesn’t do himself any favours sometimes. Yesterday’s team included the only two fit centre halves available. There was no cover on the bench.

As for Souness, like may others he is employed as a pundit to be disagreeable and controversial. Reach for the mute button.

That laboured approach came across very strongly on the radio. The pundit was saying there was absolutely no width so never an out ball when things got congested in the middle. It sounded like West Ham exploited that in the 2nd half. It can’t be a good sign for Villa if Gerrard could then adapt to that.

My old man was a Villa fan, so I always keep an eye out for how they’re getting on. I’ve always found their fans to be very fickle. When we played them there in the Championship Villa Park was like a morgue it was so quiet.
