A striker or an attacking midfielder covers us, don’t they?
If we sign a striker, John-Jules certainly but also Jackson as a utility forward can cover other positions. If we sign an attacking midfielder, they’re more cover for Ladapo.
The great thing about our approach now is that, on the evidence of a fairly decent sample of games, we don’t appear to be all that dependent on having our very best team out and having them play in fixed positions. Or the need to cover them like for like.
It’s an approach that demands players are flexible in their roles even during games and need to do a bit of everything no matter where they play.
Edit: Of course, if a standout player is available for the right price then let’s go for them. This is more about filling gaps or needing more cover. [Post edited 1 Sep 2022 9:48]
