All the talk is understandably about Plymouth ring our main promotion rivals but I was very impressed with Exeter last night as well. They played some good football and more than matched Plymouth for 3/4 of the game. They are definitely the best of the three sides who came up.

Our game coming up against them is going to be tougher than I first thought.

On Plymouth they are brimming with confidence and seem to be happy to go behind as they know they can turn it around and often do. Hope they falter ar some point but at the moment they are deservedly top.

Agreed…Exeter the better team until it went 2-2. Plymouth had 5 shots on target (as did Exeter) and scored 4, including one from 30+ yards out.

There's a bit of Stockholm Syndrome on this board at the moment.

Maybe Exeter looked so good because Plymouth actually aren't THAT good?

Yeh yeh, I like the look of the Pilgrims, but a lot of over the top fawning going on. And yeh, Exeter are no numpties, clearly. Most games at this level aren't easy.

Someone posted elsewhere Pilgrims look "a lot, lot better" than Town. Arf. They don't, unless you have inverse blue tinted specs. They are being less sloppy and more clinical currently for sure. Let's not pretend we are underdogs in any of our games though.

I felt that when we lost to Plymouth they overloaded the side where Donacien was playing as Jackson was playing further forward and he doesn't give the same cover to a fullback as Evans does. Plymouth must be decent because they are top and haven't dropped points like we have. McKenna needs to sort this frailty at the back out. Many have been calling for a 20 goal marksman. But the season we had Shefki and Benty up front we scored loads of goals but shipped loads as well. We need to learn a bit of match management. Play the flowing football, but learn to shut up shop.

“ Play the flowing football, but learn to shut up shop.”

Basically this! I get the playing out from the back, and keeping the ball and it’s clearly been successful for us. BUT there are times when our CBS are being pressed by the opposition and just need to lump it clear. Too many times we’ve lost possession at the back with a misplaced pass undert pressure.

Indeed and the way we play we will be punished, especially by the better teams. I reckon this is factored into a season long view and the management believe this style will gain us more points than we drop. It should be fairly evident as the season progresses if this tactic changes.

Defending high balls into the box and subsequent second (and third) balls is surely something being addressed. Missing Burgess and Leigh on that front.

So true! If we hadn’t shipped those 2 goals, no one would give a flying one about Plymouth’s win last night. It’s like many have conceded the league in October ffs! Their going well, but so are we despite Saturday. Are the Wednesday and Posh boards in melt down? Pompeys’ probably is!

Footage of Alan Hunter required. If it needed to go over the stand that's where he put it.
