Interesting question. I think that Beckham has let himself down with his public support for Qatar. But I am finding myself asking why do we try to expect more ‘morality’ from footballers than politicians, holiday makers or from British businesses and business people who are currently making money out there. I’ve heard plenty from people calling on footballers to speak out against Qatar on various issues. But why should they when the government seems happy to invest over there, more British holiday makers go over there compared to football fans. And the number of UK business people over there outweighs the England squad but it’s the footballers who are called to speak out. Gary Neville is someone who I think is a good person but isn’t as ‘lefty’ or moral as what he’s perceived to be. He calls on club owners to respect their clubs traditions yet as owner of Salford he changed their colours straight away from orange to red. My disdain at this World Cup is the fact that it’s ridiculous that a country that size is hosting it. It’s blatant corruption. It’s not a nice place but I don’t think it’s fair on footballers to be forced out on various issues.
Qatar is getting messy now, those homophobic comments from a World Cup official on 20:12 - Nov 8 with 971 views | unstableblue | … are outrageous And I’ve yet to see the organising committee or government tackle them Yes I know it’s a Muslim country, but it’s 2022… the bible can be interpreted the same way Potential Germany may boycott And there is going to be a shed load of team and player protest which the locals are going to find offensive Then add in booze in the fan zones, but zero tolerance for drunken behaviour outside them! It’s a mess

Nor did Beckham or Neville have a say in the location, Platini did. Although I do feel it's disappointing the likes of Beckham and Neville are showing their support for the wrong cause here. Neither need the money so as far as I'm concerned it's greed over moral values and they have no credibility if they try to speak about people's rights whilst taking the dodgy dollar. Or rather Riyal. Although Neville reckons he intends to use the platform to somehow do just that so maybe he'll surprise us all. Just how he anticipates he'd be able to do that is anyone's guess.

Jeera, location is irrelevant. They chose to take the Dollar. In my opinion that makes them both hypocrites.

I should say that because Beckham and Neville had no say in the location, that is irrelevant! Apologies Jeera!
