A Bit Concerned 14:51 - Dec 5 with 1106 views | OldFart71 | I am a tad concerned about our ability to maintain second spot until the January window. Don't get me wrong, so far our season is pretty much on track. If after the first ball was kicked of this season someone had said would you take being one point off the leaders in Division One at the beginning of December I'd have snapped their hand off. My concerns are can we maintain this without ten first team players as up until recently we could alter a game by bring on five players who would make a real difference. Now we have KVY taking over in the fullback position, a couple of centre backs, a goalie and Jackson. Nothing for the midfield where we are relying on a 19 year old to do the job of a seasoned professional and although he may be decent it is placing a hefty burden on young shoulders.

We're still nine points ahead of Barnsley in fourth at the moment. It's going to be a tough few weeks though given how stretched we are in some areas.

We might have to learn how to win games without the ability to change our entire forward line for the last half hour, but prior to this season we couldn't do that anyway! It's a shame that speculative shot from Fleetwood went in, because the first 95 minutes of that one highlighted some of what we'll have to do until the cavalry comes. Score when you're on top, defend well when you aren't.

Though, getting through a season without issues such as this is incredibly rare. Not sure if Plymouth and Wednesday have had their trying periods as yet.

Indeed, but I was pleasantly surprised this morning to see that the gap to fourth was still that big. If the top three go at two points a match and we dip to fifth at some point then it's not the end of the world (unless it's late April) but if we maintain our overall form over the next month then we are definitely well placed regardless of what the others do.

I think we're probably best placed of the Top 3 to get better during the window. Sheffield Wednesday have got a big squad already and their main issue is coherence as a group, rather than their levels as individuals. Signing more players in January won't do them much good. Plymouth don't have the budget to reinforce. Best case scenario for them is keeping the squad they've got together. We've got the budget to recruit, would benefit from a bit more quality in key areas and have the manager who would make it work.
