I'm feeling controversial today, so here goes 14:45 - Dec 18 with 1045 viewsTalkingBlues

Gareth Southgate - good for the group stages of a tournament, but as soon as the pressure elevates, loses the plot and makes terrible selections and substitutions, we will never win anything under his stewardship, we deserve to be better than "competitive against teams ranked lower than us in the World".

Kayden Jackson - was dross when we signed him and is still dross. Literally, the one thing he can do is run, but his complete lack of ability on the ball renders that a useless trait anyway. We would be better off playing a sheep dog instead of him, would last a full 90 and is better at doing Kayden Jackson, than Kayden Jackson, imagine the wages we'd free up and it wouldn't count towards the 22 man squad limit.

Burns- has been an unbelievable player for us, until the switch got flicked and has offered little since. I think he has been partially hampered by a slight change of role within the side, but I can't help but notice that the sudden change initiated when he received a Wales call up, did that affect him mentally? did he have players chirping in his ear about slowing down to extend his career?

Ahadme - shown nothing, not getting minutes, will 100% be loaned out in January

Edwards - doesn't get minutes in a fully fit squad, barely gets minutes in an injury ravaged squad and is having zero impact from the bench, he too will be gone in January, 85% certain of this, might even be sold, rather than loaned.

Keogh - still no idea what he offers, can't do 90 minutes and other than 1 game I can recall, has looked off the pace when he has been subbed on and still been unable to ensure we see a game out, should and probably will be removed from the 22.

Camara - a gamble that has backfired spectacularly, time to cut the losses and move on, he should be gone in January, absolutely no point keeping him on the books.

Ladapo - does a job, but plenty of players that can do the same and offer more around the pitch. When we secure another couple of forwards he should be seeing significantly less game time, with a view to a summer switch away.

Leigh - looks another that should be loaned out for minutes to regain fitness, but we need someone for Davis backup. Penney loan ends in January, has had rave reviews and played every minute, so he could find himself coming back to bench whilst Leigh gets minutes?

Can't see any of our loanees being recalled, quite the opposite.

That's my take, feel free to agree/disagree, but that's where I am with players that I think a decision needs to be made on for January.

Hmmm....semi final and final would suggest otherwise.
On Jackson...was possibly MOTM last week when playing as the frontman. Did an excellent job in creating space and positions for others...eg Chaplin who was able to score a brace.
On Burns...yeah..its been saddening to see his decline this season.
Ahadme ...yeah...not impressed to be fair. But has hardly been given the minutes.
Keogh...agree...but his most important role is to be off the pitch.
Camara...to early to form much of an opinion...injury hasnt given him the opportunity to show what he has...same for all our injury returnees.
Ladapo...does not have the footballing intellect to play as a singleton up top. Just doesnt think right to get into positions wher he could pick bits and pieces up. Not our answer for a striker...imo.
Leigh...not been for enough for a long spell on the team. Always going to be back up to Davis...still better than Penney though...who will probably be offloaded in January.
So...summing up .....pretty well with you on most things.
Ta...for the good post.

This would be Gareth Southgate who's made a semi and a final in previous tournaments?

Hence why it is a controversial statement. For controversial, read ridiculous take really.

So, a sensible take on this is:

Southgate regularly gets us further through tournaments than any other manager has done or could do (and yet some would rather a manager who wouldn't get us through the group stages instead). There are not many teams ranked above us in the world to be better than but ... Brazil (1) knocked out in the QF (same stage as us) by a team ranked 12th, Belgium (2) knocked out in the group stages by teams ranked 22nd and 12th while the other 2 ahead of us contest the final. We were knocked out by a team ranked 4th.

Kayden Jackson was clearly a League 1 player in the Championship ... and a League 1 player in League 1. Perfectly adequate but not going to be a key player for us. 45 goals and 41 assists argue strongly against your statement.

Burns was brilliant last season and fine this. 3 goals and 5 assists from his defence/wide midfield role and the way he links with Donacien have contributed to us being 2nd in the league. 2 of those goals and 2 of the assists have come since his call up. How would slowing down extend his career? All it would do is ensure he dropped down from League 1 level now.

Ahadme - how can he show anything when he isn't playing? He won't be loaned out.

Edwards has been a different option and frequently very effective. Considering the 15 matches he has been involved in, we would only be looking to move him on if we were getting better in. It would be a shock if he was to go anywhere in January.

Keogh provides experienced squad cover and is here to graduate into coaching. I would imagine he is a useful voice in and around the squad in training and on a match day. e played 90 minutes of a 2-1 victory against Morecambe. e successfully saw out victories in 3 of the 5 matches he came on as sub in. Before yesterday his record in league matches was W4 D2 L0.

Camara - it seemed strange to sign a player while injured. We will give this longer to see if he can get fit but currently he looks like another of those who are good players but no point to them being any good if they are never fit. The only way he "goes" in January is through a pay-off and I can't see that happening yet.

Ladapo - if we can get better that may be realistic. I won't hold my breath on us getting better. We spent a lot of time chasing a striker in the summer and didn't get anything better.

Leigh - funny how players get better when they are not playing in our team. We want the best squad of players here. Leigh is better than Penney. Why choose to weaken the squad?

What is controversial about us not recalling any loanees. Why would we?

I am sure there are other players for whom decisions can be made on in January. I would be looking at improving the back-up goal keeper but perhaps Hladky has improved somewhat under different coaching.

When did 'F******s tribute act' become an aspiration for so many here?

Fair enough. But it sums up the ridiculous expectations of so many too. I think it is a few vocal fans rather than a majority that hold it.
