Wycombe Wanderers next up for SWFC 08:04 - Jan 8 with 1549 viewsArnieM

I couldn’t think of a better team for them to play next to potentially bring em down with a bump.

As long as Ainsworth doesn't rest 8 of his regular starters like he did against Plymouth!

Poll: How many points do you think you'll need to get a ticket for Norwich?

Really impressed with Wednesday last night against Newcastle and even the changes they made during the game maintained their strength, it showed the depth in their squad. It certainly looks a 3 horse race for 2 automatic promotion places, they are a better side than I previously thought. McGuiness will be a huge loss for them, he simply loves defending that lad, he’ll be a difficult one to replace like for like. Certainly going to be an interesting few months ahead, however with a couple of key signings for us can see this going right until the last couple of games of the season.

Poll: Where are we going to finish?

Quite agree. There’s been so much made of Plymouth on here for months, yet I’ve maintained it’s SWFC we should be concerned about. They have a big squad and strong players throughout. This is yet another season where they are pushing for promotion. I think they’ll get it. We by contrast are in our first real push for promotion. I’m praying we do it. But if you look at teams promoted …. Or relegated, there’s usually a few season of trend towards that final eventuality. Eg Plymouth have been in or around that top two for the last 2-3 seasons now, before falling away. They’re 7 points ahead atm. Is this also their season to finally go up? By contrast , we are there of thereabouts this season. Are we going to “do a Plymouth” and fall away? We hss as be a very good squad, but unless we get the caliber of player through the door in January I can see us doing just that this season.

The theme has been “ we must have a striker”. Yes we need a number 9 that hits the net with regularity , but we are one of the divisions top scorers, from all parts of the pitch . In my view, what we actually need is a decent CB pairing. Someone to partner Burgess . Yet again yesterday we showed our ability to gift soft goals. We do it EVERY game. THIS will be our Achilles heel. I’ve been saying all season , we can’t defend! If ever there was a player we should try to sign it is McGunniess. He’s a giant in defence . Get him and we’d go up in my opinion.

Interesting 2nd half of the season. Far too close to call but I can’t see SWFC falling away so it’s between us and Plymouth. Can we beat them next Saturday? How influential will the loss of Whittaker be for them? It’s all to play for isn’t it ….

Sheffield Wednesday were excellent. I was surprised how good they were. Given Plymouth are outstanding, I think it likely we will fall away, given our three wins in nine mid table form.

However it’s still only January and a very long way to go. I am also usually wrong. A streak of back to back wins would make all the difference. We are a good team and it’s doable.
