That reminds me of the only time I was punched at a football match despite standing in the North Stand during most of the '70s.
It was a game against Chelsea, and there was mayhem with no real segregation.
Out of the blue, I was punched and found myself facing three big lads saying "Who do you support?"
I wasn't quite sure what to say because I didn't know who they supported, but one of my friends said "Ipswich", and they said "That's alright, then." because they were Ipswich fans.
But slightly ironic that the only bit of football violence I have ever suffered was from fellow Ipswich fans. [Post edited 12 Feb 2023 17:21]

But, clubs aside, there is a sort of sense of 'enjoymemt' - don't bark if you cannot bite.
