The others are Ray Crawford (Ipswich Town, 1962), Peter Osgood (Chelsea, 1971) and Kevin Hector (Derby County, 1976).

Not often we get mentioned in Champions League stats. on 23:20 - Mar 14 with 1307 views | Miaow | I believe Ray Crawford remains the only Englishman to score five goals in one match in the European Cup. We are massive. That was in the 10-0 win over Floriana. Those other two five-goal hauls for English players in Europe were also in double-figure victories: Osgood's came in a 13-0 (21-0 agg.) Cup Winners' Cup win against Jeunesse Hautcharage of Luxembourg and Hector's was in a 12-0 (16-1 agg.) UEFA Cup win over Finn Harps of Ireland - Derby were 9-0 up at half-time in that game. Osgood also scored a hat-trick in the first leg, meaning he scored eight of Chelsea's 21 goals in that tie, and their aggregate win was a European competition record until it was equalled by Feyenoord in the following season's UEFA Cup.

On this day 1982 Alan Brazil 5 Southampton 2 by Tommyparker 16 Feb 2020 16:44Leathal Brazil shatters the League leaders. He pounces after Katalinnic misjudges a high ball and nips in again from Steggles long ball. Assured finishing from a D'Avray nod-down and a Gates pass his nap hand. Meanwhile, Mills and Osman make crucial goal-line clearances. In the afternoon prior to the game Alan spent the afternoon in a Corals bookmaker. He should have been at home having a sleep but Alan received a very hot tip from Newmarket which he couldn't miss. Alan won 600.
Before his five-goal spree against Southampton, Alan had never scored a league hat-trick. For some weird reason he told John Wark in the dressing room before the Southampton that he was going to score a hat-trick. Alan didn't realise that between his fourth in the 70th minute and the last one, the match-ball had been booted out of the ground. A campaign was organised through the local paper to try and get it back. It turned up ten days later. Members of the groundstaff spent a couple of hours after the game and more time the following morning looking for it. Alan had his suspicions that it was acquired by a man whose son went on to play for the club and achieve international glory. The only blip in Alan happiness that night was that his young wife Jill wasn't at the match. It was the first home game she had missed that season.
