Me and the voices in my head wish you a happy delirium day too.

Actually, in all seriousness it can be a really awful thing to get. People can literally go crazy and some never recover and die from it. It often occurs in the elderly after a fall.

My mother had one of the worst cases they’d seen in Ipswich Hospital after breaking her thigh. She nearly died there and took about 9 months to get over it if she ever did. Add in dementia and it’s not good. She died in a care home two and a bit years later.

So while I’m more than happy to joke about it, it’s actually a condition I’d never heard of that it’s useful to know of if you have elderly relations.

While a lot milder than your Mums case, my mother in law has had it a couple of times with a UTI. I'd not heard of it at the time, we all assumed dementia/alzheimers at the time.

Worth pointing out that anyone can get it, although age will obviously influence it. It's not fun and is linked to poorer hospital outcomes as well as horrid things like PTSD(particularly if you got it as a result of an ITU admission).
