I remember it well we were voted the best team in Europe that year, so near to being English champions again!

So agonisingly near, yet so agonisingly far.

We beat eventual champions Villa three times that season.
Ironically, beating them in the FA cup third round ultimately benefitted Villa.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Almost didn't continue reading after the badly written 2nd paragraph, which suggested a UEFA cup win for the scum, not just the 2nd-round win that it was!

Apart from that, very nice, thanks for posting.

Poll: So what do we think will happen with MM and the Aston Villa job?

Good read except for the author thinking Ari's Salonika is a Cypriot team.

I remember reading at the time a great article in one of the broadsheet newspapers (possibly the Times) which waxed lyrically about the team, and from what I can recall suggested Ipswich were the best footballing team for many years.

Sadly, I've never been able to track down the article.

Great article, but, in the interest of fairness regarding this comment after Ramsey's departure:

" Ipswich .... bumped between the First and Second tiers until the arrival of yet another future England managing great, Bobby Robson, in January 1969."

They were actually soon relegated, but only once, then came back 5 years later under Bill McGarry. Robson took over a top tier side whom, it was said, McGarry felt could progress no further.
