Interesting that, although not an original member of either, he was a member of the first punk band outside the US (the Saints) to release a record, and the first UK punk band (the Damned) to release a single and album.
I still have the Saints' first album.

RIP. Was a big Damned fan. Not been a good few years for ex-Damned bass players, getting to be a bit like Spinal Tap drummers. Bryn Merrick, RIP, and Paul Gray, still going as far as I can see, were even in a cancer hospital together at one point.

Paul Gray is back in the current Damned line up and toured with them earlier this year. I saw them at Nottingham Rock City and they were as good as ever!
I saw Algy with both the Damned and his later band, Tank. They released a hilariously bad album’The Filth Hounds of Hades’.
Machine Gun Etiquette, the Damned album he played on remains one of my favourite albums of all time. My 16 year old son has recently discovered its many delights.

Now you say that, I think I'd seen that he's in the latest line-up. I wasn't aware of Tank until reading something earlier and laughed at The Filth Hounds of Hades as an album title. Not sure I want to listen to it!
Machine Gun Etiquette is indeed superb but not listened to it for years. Had a spell listening to Strawberries again a little while back so might well have a MGE revival.
