Very sad to hear on the World Service overnight of a girl in Afghanistan whose mental health has been severely affected by being denied an education.

How the US failed to recruit a proper police force or establish a true army capable of resisting the Taliban, seems to have swept under the carpet

What went on there, masses of money funnelled away into the hands who shouldn't have been getting it, presumably?

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Really interesting article in last months Economist about how well organised the Taliban are compared to the government that was before, despite all the support it had from Western Allies.

Not a defence of the Taliban at all and the article v much explored the plight of women since their return to power. More I suppose it highlighted just how useful (and probably corrupt without saying it) the government was.

Sadly this was enivtable
