Fortnite 12:42 - Jul 25 with 1394 viewshype313

My 9yr old is constantly asking to be allowed to play it as all his friends are, but I have reservations from what I've read, am I being mean or should I stick to my guns.

I know nothing about it btw!

I think if you turned off voice chat and monitored them whilst they played it'd be fine. It's very cartoony, the only real issues would just come from other toxic players.

It's free as well so maybe play it with them and work out from there whether you think it's appropriate or not.

Cheers Dan, was hoping you would reply!

Yeah, looks like most of the issues are around the online side so I'll give it a look later and see what it's all about.

Is it violent, obvs no GTA standard I presume.

Christ, I sound like a right bore!

We had the same dilemma a year or so back and what Dan says is true - its cartoon violence - no blood and when someone dies, they disappear in a puff of blue smoke.

The only thing I'd caution against is that its highly addictive and that can lead to frustration. Also, there will likely be pressure to get a headset to talk to makes, as that seems to be half the fun (in my boy's experience at least) - thats where arguments can happen, even without allow stranger toxic types into the chat.

Anyone can ask to be your friend on there, so you'd have to warn your kid about that.

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

Its violent with guns and explosions or using cars to hit people, but no gore or blood.

He'll be fine. My boys played it and not shot anyone for a few months now.

Tell him to up his game.

Even this old 48 year old has brought home a few Victory Royals (even if my lobby is crap!).

Don't have children nor play Fortnite, but I would say the violence is not that different to the sort of thing you would see in an old Loony Tunes episode.

To me, the bigger issue with modern online games is the pervasiveness of things like battle/season passes and other paid content. From what I understand, these are largely cosmetic items. I can imagine that this, alongside the want for a headset to talk to his mates, is where more of the peer pressure will come. I do not envy you, good luck!

Very cartoony but is a lot of fun, especially when played with friends. My 9 year old nephew and his friends love it.

Believe you you set it up to autodecline friend requests but may be better if he just doesn't "fill" matches.

As far as the battle pass goes, once you but it it kind of pays for itself in perpetuity unless you buy other things from the shop. Would suggest using giftcards only and not adding a bank card.
