Seconded, excellent from the ref he let the game flow seemed to get it right. Haven't seen the Hutchinson penalty call on video yet though

I thought he was good too. The Hutchinson foul was outside the box fwiw, though it did look a foul to me.

The discussion on TownTV after the game focused on three possible penalty calls but didn't judge the Hutchinson one to be outside the box. Darren Ambrose actually managed to get a word in edgeways on the Simon Milton oration (not that Milton doesn't talk sense but he does tend to dominate the conversation, Matt Holland was very patient) and made the point that it was a 'backwards hook tackle', i.e the Hull defender hooked his foot around to take the ball whilst with his back to Hutchinson. That meant that the leg that felled Omari was inside the penalty area but also looked like a half decent stop, actually a quite skilful tackle and backed up with video evidence on the replay. The Hull call for a penalty halfway through the second half when Williams dived in with our defence a bit at sixes and sevens looked a better call. Williams didn't get the ball and their player threw his arms up in appeal but had no other attackers near him to join in the protests. I think we got away with that one.

The ref last night on 08:11 - Oct 4 with 1075 views | BloomBlue | I liked the fact he warned a Hull player and then a few mi uses later he warned Williams if either committed another foul he would book them. The Hull player protested but he pointed towards the areas of the pitch where he had committed fouls. I like that approach, football is a physical game, but at least tell the player they have nearly committed too many and if they do commit another they don't have an excuse.

Yes I agree that we may have dodged a bullet with the Williams tackle not yielding a penalty. It's extremely difficult to evaluate a ref's performance without being biased. If we thought he had a good game, it may well be that the Hull fans didn't. If we hadn't netted three goals, those penalty calls would have been the big decisions that refs have to get right. But in general terms, he had control of the game and allowed it to flow. Maybe not the most difficult game to referee, but I thought he did a good job.

Agreed. Thought that he was very good in allowing good-length advantages as well, allowing the situation to play out rather than stopping the advantage at the first pass.

To be fair on him, foul or not, penalty or not on Hutchinson, he gave us one back with Williams foul on the Hull player in our penalty area, (Can't remember who? Delap?), which was a stonewall pen for me, even before the replay.

The ref last night on 09:31 - Oct 4 with 853 views | LankHenners | Thankfully he was strong early on on not falling for Hull players throwing themselves to the floor every time they felt contact, plenty of games have been ruined by a gullible ref in those circumstances. Don't know what more Hirst has to do to get a free kick, mind. Yet another game where he's getting his shirt ripped off him by a defender barely even looking at the ball and not got anything for it.
