It wouldn't be top of my safari wish list but even less so now.

Thats so tragic. I am going with my family today on safari to Kenya, so really not near this, but also very scarily close.

Hopefully you will be far enough north if you are going to the Masai Mara, the reported attack is seen as a spill over from activity in D R Congo.

That being said, further north in Kenya there has been significant unrest in the past. I travelled through on the way to Ethiopia in 2015 and it felt OK but I was aware of ethnic divisions. More pertinent was the decimation of the way of life of the Samburu as a result of drought.

I didn't feel insecure in Nairobi but we had a pre-booked ride from the airport to the tourist hotel and were then in walking distance of the Giraffe park and baby elephant sanctuary (both of which I would say are unmissable, even though you may be going to see these creatures in a game park.)

I've been making rough plans to go to Uganda Rwanda and the DRC next year to finally see the Silverbacks, this sadly may postpone my plans

Crikey, I've actually been to exactly that place. Awful.

Thanks for your reply. I am a little clueless on the details as its the wifes arrangement, a night in nairobi, 3 nights in a camp on the Talek River (so in the middle?) then 6 nights at Diani Beach. Everything well researched, pre booked and arranged and Mrs B makes this seamless normally.
