Sheffield Wednesday have been fined £50,000 - https://t.co/KOoovaX929 - for the Peterborough play-off game.
Whilst I’m sure the headlines will read that the fine is for the pitch invasion the detail in the below doc is interesting… seems the fine is more of Wednesday’s lack of preparation for the event than anything else.
Outside of things being thrown, pyro etc. A few interesting tidbits:
- the safety plan they submitted as a defence exhibit (the documents words) had the wrong date on - the stewards watched the penalty shootout with their back to the stand and were celebrating as fans ran on
- the game plan stated it was a low- risk as it was a 12pm weekend game - which it clearly wasn’t.
- the FA deemed the 4 mins the PA played music after the win before a stay off the pitch announcement as excessive
Considering this is a stadium already recently investigated for safety concerns following the Newcastle game - you would have thought they’d taken things a bit more seriously.

That is absolutely shocking re the safety plan errors.
It is my long held view that Sheffield Wednesday, as Large Scale Event Licence holders, and the FA, as promoters, should have been prosecuted for Corporate Manslaughter over the 96 (if prosecution had been timely) or 97 deaths directly attributable to previously known safety shortcomings at Hillsborough.
It is unfathomable that they are paying lip service to the Safety Plan for major matches there.
A £50,000 fine doesn't begin to address a major problem in their corporate culture around safety that clearly persists. |  | | |
