Get your PSA's done gents... on 18:59 - Dec 27 with 1684 views | Cheltenham_Blue | How do you go about this? Is it just an appointment with the GP? Is it age dependent? For example, over 50's only?

Get your PSA's done gents... on 19:01 - Dec 27 with 1675 views | gtsb1966 | Absolutely. Mine is high too but thankfully my scan revealed nothing , im roughly 7.5, and now I'm checked every year. Should be a routine check for any man over50 now.

Pee more especially at night, dribble every now and then after a pee and having a weak flow especially at the start. Don't worry about your age just go to the docs. [Post edited 27 Dec 2023 19:07]

Mine just went from 5 to 15 so hopefully I will get another scan due to family history as well but you need to establish a starting point.

My doc said it's when it goes into the 100's that it's more of a sign of cancer. An enlarged prostate inflates figures and it is 1 in 4 who have cancer from a low but elevated reading. Just to put people's mind at rest my friend and fellow Town fan was found to have a prostate cancer at an early stage and after 20 bouts of radiotherapy the cancer was gone. The key is early diagnosis. Go to the docs with any of the signs I have said in this thread. A finger up your @rse could save your life. Never ever be embarrassed because the doctor isn't.

Spot on. There is no fixed connection between a high PSA and cancer but you have more chance of finding out by checking. Edit...in my father's case his reading went up by a high percentage but the number was less than mine and the GP did nothing so be pushy! [Post edited 27 Dec 2023 19:25]

A normal psa reading is 2.5 or below. Yours isn't high in terms of cancer but definitely needs investigating. Even if the worst outcome was to happen you would be almost certainly be cured due to the early detection. Prostate cancer is very treatable if caught early. The problem we have is twofold, some men have no symptoms and others who do are too embarrassed to go to the docs. [Post edited 27 Dec 2023 19:46]

I have a test every year as part of me prescription renewals 2 years ago my GP told me that the PSA was slightly raised, and tests were arranged , then a biopsy which showed prostrate cancer. I opted for surgery rather than chimo. The surgery does have side effects , which, in my case, still persist in a minor way, All PSA tests since are completely clear. So my message is “Get tested”
