League structures 12:30 - Apr 10 with 607 views | gainsboroughblue | Just having a cuppa and looking through the league tables across Europe. Really struck me just how flippin confusing some of them are in how they work. The Belgian league splits into three after about 30 games and the points are divided in half as well. The Dutch second tier breaks into 4 periods where the winner of that goes straight in the play-offs, so you can basically win 7 games in a season, lose the rest and potentially go up. The Scottish One is a bit odd as well with their split with teams in 7th/8th often finishing with more points than those in 5th/6th. In North America, Mexico has two seasons in one where both are decided by the top 8 then having a knockout to determine the winner. At least over here, things are more straight forward, otherwise a league calculator thingy would be a nightmare.

I think - before long - we'll have two seasons per calendar year: Aug to mid-Dec, then a break, then mid-Jan to May. That way, there would be twice as many crucial 'Games of the Century' for Sky to hype up, more 'success' for the Big Clubs and a nice little winter break so clubs can play irrelevant - but lucrative -matches in random, oil-rich parts of the world.
