Anyone read Duncan Hamilton's book Answered Prayers about 66 World Cup 18:13 - Jul 19 with 950 viewsjontysnut

Not at all complimentary about the condition and location of Sir Alf's statue - albeit a couple of years ago. Where else could it go - other than in between ' a couple of non descript car parks and a generic football stand'. Or is it fine where it is?

One fact I didn't know that all 92 league clubs were invited to send a representative to his memorial service at St Mary's but only 5 turned up.

It’s looked a state pretty much since it was unveiled, with that horrible green leakage. As for placement, would have been better to have him closer to the stadium itself.

At least it is a very good likeness of the great man.

Yes, he admits that is a good statue, but compares prominence of Shankly and Clough equivalents. Maybe future redevelopment could improve things.

Cloughs statue is outside what was a Hard Rock cafe now a cocktail bar I think, its not exactly the City Ground or screams football is it ??

yeah I think its one of those he wants to make a particular point regardless of the facts things. Sir Alf is fine where it is, the base could be cleaned up, but its atypical of bronze statues to go like that.

I like the immediate surrounds of the Clough statue at Pride Park. I also like that it faces outwards so that you can appreciate it with the ground in the background (even though it's a non-descript bowl. It feels like they are welcoming you to the ground. However you still end up with the issue that it's between car parks.
