When you consider we scored 92 and conceded 57 last season... 09:26 - Jul 24 with 1474 viewstractorboy1978

I think our approach to this window is quite interesting. Would be easy to have assumed we might see more changes and money spent defensively to try and tighten up. But this is more proof McKenna almost sees conceding goals as a necessary evil to play with the attacking freedom we do.

Clearly don't plan on changing much and want to spend a good chunk of money upgrading our front 4 options so we can rotate and have 'starters and finishers' without a drop off in quality again.

Broadhead, Chaplin, Burns, Szmodics, Clarke, Omari would be a pretty tantalising 6 to have playing behind the striker. And I am still not convinced we are done yet in the striker department.

We've replaced 3 of the back 5 already?

Although in terms of actual business, we've signed two starting defenders and a new goalkeeper. so more than half of our starting back five is replaced.

Always more depth/variance needed going forward so our rumours will reflect that I think, but I would say with the likely addition of another deeper midfield starter likely to come that we've just beefed up in terms of quality in those defensive positions (as opposed to quantity).

From an attacking stand point I like the profile we are going towards - our attacking output dropped when we had injuries to starters or subs which meant we couldn't play our high-octane game for 90 minutes at times, and we seem to be just topping up on big energy, young and talented players to just give us a roster of options. It does make you think that we aren't going to change our style particularly which has to be exciting (and a bit scary!).

That is true, I guess we have got in 3 starters that should raise the bar. A lot of faith and trust being put in the likes of Woolfy, Clarke, Burgess and even Axel (given his lack of games over the last few seasons) to step up when needed. Not that I am against it. And I guess as you say, the new CM, whoever that be, should add solidity.

I love what we are trying to do going forwards. I think my only nagging doubt is seeing Luton score plenty of goals last season and still concede too many to stay up. It's going to be a real challenge for McKenna as our defensive shape and discipline on transition is going to have to be absolutely spot on every game if we are going to play with the same sort of attacking intent we did last season.

It's well documented that Ashton and McK have stated that they intend to 'give it a go' this season.

There's been no indication that we are changing our approach or style.

As I have stated in earlier threads, our transfer business is very much improving on what we have - it doesn't indicate a departure from method or approach.

I think that's because we've been aiming to play a "Prem ready" style for the last couple of years.

That's not in the sense of shutting up shop and hoping to nick a goal on the break. I think McKenna knows that's not productive against the lesser teams and won't work against the better ones. We're going to get more out of attacking and pressing high - the opposition can't score from their own box.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

A continuation of our approach over the last 2 years. Our ethos and approach isn't changing and rightly so.
