I’m wondering why we’ve played 3 first-team friendlies (4 were scheduled) this pre-season and 10 last season? Are we short of players *and* undercooked?
I thought it was slightly unusual that we didn't have the raft of local friendlies featuring an ITFC 11
AFC Sudbury, Needham Market and Col U have been hosts in previous times.
I reflected that these games were like a chance to showcase Town to locals and hopefully tempt some of said locals to make the effort to travel to Portman Road and maybe become fans
But when you sell out every game and there are no tix for love nor money, the need to attract more fans is less of an imperative.
The friendlies we did play seemed a sterner test for our probable first team and as such were more use to us facing the challenges of this forthcoming season
Fewer midweek games this season so perhaps less of a need for the squad to acclimatise to such an intense calendar of matches? It should work in our favour that the players will get a lot more time working with McKenna on the training ground rather than losing half a week on midweek trips away.
