I was just thinking about the phenomena of compassion fatigue (or disaster fatigue or environmental destruction fatigue).

These things don't go away when we close our ears and our eyes, do they?

Caring is a tiring business isn't it.

Edit...Bizarrely enough at the start of all this when it was clear where the Israeli State response would lead people would make out that opposing it was akin to not caring about Israeli lives when in reality nothing could have been further from the truth.

The parallels with the Scorched Earth policy, and subsequent Concentration Camps, of the Second Boer War are chilling.

Tens of thousands of civilians killed in response to guerilla attacks.

The excuses of Israeli spokespeople have been very similar in tone to Broderick's assertions to Parliament.

And we should echo Campbell-Bannerman's "When is a war not a war?" with "When is a genocide not a genocide?"

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/sep/12/idf-airstrike-gaza-school-nuseirat

'An Israeli airstrike on a central Gaza school being used as a shelter for displaced Palestinians has killed 18 people, the Hamas-run territory’s civil defence agency has said, with the UN reporting that six of its staff were among the dead.

The UN Palestinian refugee agency, Unrwa, said the attack was the highest death toll among its staff in a single incident. Two airstrikes hit the school and its surroundings in Nuseirat, it said.'
