Another medical hive question. 17:01 - Oct 18 with 949 viewsNthQldITFC

Does anyone here have any experience of a beta blocker (Bisoprolol specifically) affecting cognition in an older patient?

Is there anything in the side effects leaflet about this?

I think confusion can be a relatively common side-effect of any beta-blocker.

No, nothing in the printed side effects, except dizziness which has a somewhat woolly definition I suppose.

I've been taking Bisoprolol for a while now and haven't noticed any difference. I'm still as mad as a hatter though. Joking aside, i'm only on the lowest dose of 1.25 mg. What dose are they on?

It does tend to lower blood pressure, which may affect
cerebral perfusion(blood flow to the brain).

A consultation with my BNF says that confusion can be a side effect.

Thanks mate, that's really helpful coming from a pro. I'll feed that back to her GP tomorrow.

2.5mg actually, so might be worth asking about a reduced dose, ta.
