Ashton on Vaz 18:43 - Nov 4 with 2240 viewsjasondozzell

Says it wasn't about money. More that Vaz wanted to be number 1.

After that season, you'd think it would be the right thing to say yes wouldn't you.

Football is utterly ruthless.

For what it's worth I can see that Muric is a top prospect. Made some unbelievable saves. He is a great signing but it's a shame we couldn't get Vaz to stay.

So he joined Burnley who have a 15m keeper? Makes sense.

Good point. Who knows. All seems strange.

Think it was a miscalculation from Vaz and his agent.

Ah, I see. Thanks, Phil. Makes sense that they pushed it too far.

Maybe the agent dropped the ball a bit

As in:

a) he calculated that he would be no.1 at Burnley, and he's not?

or

b) he calculated that his strategy (saying he wanted to be no.1 somewhere, and that he would walk away from Town if that wasn't the case) would yield a better offer, but it didn't?

Certainly how it looks. I don’t know what their relationship is like, but from Vaz’s comments he seemed surprisingly hands off. Surprising because it was his future and chance to play in the PL. It sounds like he left it completely to the agent who then met his (or her) match in Ashton. And given that Vaz said he wanted to stay, you’d have thought he would still be here if he’d been a bit firmer with his agent. Or what he said to us was rubbish.

All speculation of course. Do you know if we were looking for a new number 1 irrespective of Vaz’s contract situation? Sounds like we might have been. Weren’t we linked with a move for Rushworth very early on?

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?
