Not seen it massively discussed, but Syrian rebels have made a large scale attack in the last few days. Perfect timing with every country around Syria focused on Gaza/Lebanon/Iran.
Reports coming out that they've now entered Aleppo, Syria's 2nd largest city.
Syria has long received extensive assistance from Iran and Russia(both official and through Wagner) in terms of both support and direct military aid. With both distracted by other struggles, it looks like the rebels are trying their luck when both of Syria's guardians are stretched. Can't imagine Putin taking any assets of the Ukrainian frontline to prop up Syria, but Iran probably will be more determined.
Should be noted the groups leading the attacks appear to be quite nasty Islamist factions as opposed to anything approaching moderate or democratic. They are designated a terrorist organisation by most Western countries, but are heavily supported by Turkey.
no love for Bashir, but once again the Kurds will get a kicking, which of course is exactly what Erdogan wants - he's been supporting a cast of ne'er do wells on that front the past few years. Back in 2015 I was working at a well known archaeological site just outside of Sanliurfa (wonderful city) in SE Turkey, which was about 25 km from Kobane when ISIS was attacking the Kurds on all fronts. It was fairly common knowledge that wounded ISIS fighters were getting patched up in Sanliurfa hospital.

Turkey has bene bombing the fcuk out of the Kurdish controlled areas of northern and eastern Syria for months now, cutting off the water supply to one million people. Not that many would know as it's not on our TV screens.
As an update, it appears that the rebel group HTS (an offshoot of Al-Qaeda) is the main driving force. They have taken control of Aleppo and the surrounding countryside, both from the regime, but also any pockets held by the SDF (Kurdish led coalition). Sounds like the SDF have been allowed to leave in good order, but clearly not working together to attack, which makes sense as HTS have been heavily supported by Turkey.
Also advancing further south and have nearly reached Hama, about a third of the way from Aleppo to Damascus. Doesn't appear that the Syrian army have been able to put up much if any resistance thus far. However the airforce (plus Russian airforce) are operating sorties to attack the rebels.
The northern countryside of Aleppo is now considered completely rebel controlled. Previously SAA- and SDF-held territories have been captured. The rebel forces command room declared full control.
Normally Assad would have been targeted by USA and UK years ago but after Gulf and Libyan disasters Obama didn't have the stomach (fair enough) but that led to Putin realising he could throw his weight around as USA was licking its wounds a bit as it was becoming apparent they never EVER have had a plan of what to do after the annihilation.
This then led to Assad chemically targeting his own people and still nothing from the west - so he did it again and again.
At least Trump when he came in (who for his many faults is not interested in swinging the military dick) gave it to Assad on a couple of occasions. "Don't chemically attack your own people Mothers"!
