Pace and Tempo 22:42 - Dec 5 with 1250 viewscbower

Looking at our starting line up on Tuesday, it had a fair bit of pace in it. Davis, O'Shea, Burns, Hutchinson, Jack Clarke and Delap. Greaves and Harry Clarke aren't slow and Cajuste has the ability to turn and move away from his man. Only the skipper might be considered to lack any pace but he makes up for that in a myriad of ways. Yet, the tempo of our game against Everton, to a large extent at Forest, and especially on Tuesday against Palace was really slow and laborious. Only when we move the ball at pace, play at a higher tempo, get the ball quickly to Davis or Hutchinson in particular do we look like causing the opposition problems. Constant passing about 30 yards out with 9 opposition outfield players behind the ball rarely brings us any reward. I've watched somecof Bournemouth versus Spurs this evening. Bournemouth move it quickly, with intent to get forward at pace when they turn the ball over. They don't allow the opposition to get back into their shape and they flood players forward. We had similar issues at times in both L1 and last season when our game lacked intensity and tempo. I hope on Sunday we come out of the blocks fast. We have started too slowly the last two games. Bournemouth are a dangerous side but they can be a bit open. Town need to go for it from the off. Give the crowd some encouragement and stop slowing our play down too much. Rant over!

The problem I think against Palace was that they got out and pressed us so quickly and so high we didn't have the space in midfield to get the ball through to mount those quick, driving attacks which bring us the most success.

Far too much has been made of Tuesday night in a negative way.

Here goes...we played well.

We just came up against a team that defended really well and kept a really good shape, and were happy to let us have the ball in the areas we couldn't hurt them. We were a couple of important players light and that showed.

Could be famous last words but it'll be very surprising if we don't feel we've played better come Sunday evening, with it being against a more open team.

I was screaming for Jack Clarke and Hutchinson to be given the ball to run at the defenders to bring them out of formation. I think that is the only way to unblock and organised defence like they had... Or long shots. We didn't really do either.

I felt that it was noticeable when Broadhead & Al Hamadi came on, that we were suddenly looking like we had some urgency to us.
Both players may have question marks over their fitness & PL credentials, but they were positive in their attempts to penetrate the Palace line & raised the tempo at a time when we were looking resigned to our fate. The crowd will always respond to such efforts.

Same as my take on Sunday, Bournemouth will suit us more,
But we will have to be at our best to get more than a point,

Well I hope Tempo is funnier than Hale was. Cuppla cu...

Television critic Victor Lewis-Smith once described the duo by saying "Gareth Hale is the unfunny one with the moustache and Norman Pace is the unfunny one without the moustache".
