The FA rejected his account of events ... but still accepted his apology and reduced the ban and the fine accordingly. They have clearly stated it is OK for a player to assault a non-playing member of staff without provocation and only receive a 2-match ban (as long as they say sorry and make up a story about it being the other party's fault).
