I live in Ballina NSW. Already looking grim. Very windy and lots of rain and it hasn't even made landfall yet. Evacuation orders in place for a number of communities near me and power lines down in my town. Hopefully, I'll be fine as live on quite high ground not prone to flooding but so many people in the region at risk. Let's hope it's not as bad as feared eh.

Friday night into Saturday for the worst isn't it?
Was meant to arrive today but slowed right down. Bad news as that means it's just picked up more water to dump on us. That's the simplistic view of what they're saying anyway. Winds were the scariest forecast initially but now replaced by all the flooding risk.

Just been speaking to the relations, they're a little north of it in Pacific Pines but everything is closed - schools, petrol stations etc. They think they'll just get the outer rim of the cyclone but best of luck where you are.
12 metre waves at Surfers earlier!!
Stay safe!

Hey mate, how are ya? Yeah, everything closed here but after the Supermarkets were cleared out. Sandbags everywhere. I was initially really p155ed off when Gold Coast airport was closed down yesterday as was meant to fly to Adelaide for 5 days for the WOMAD Festival. Gutted to miss that but with so many people still suffering after the '22 floods that's just nothing. Many have PTSD after then so God knows what they are going through now.
Just hope we don't lose Power and Internet like we did then. It was chaos.
As I write the wind is going mental outside Reallyvpicking up
I hope you and yours are well.

Shame about the Adelaide trip though...

I have friends & family in SE Brisbane. They're reporting that it's still relatively ok there. Think you have it far worse around further south. Still hasn't hit the coast yet. Take care.

Think yerself lucky, I'm working in Ballina Co Mayo and just bought a breakfast roll that's got so much ketchup on it that even when I scraped off what I could it was still barely edible.

After my flight was cancelled and airports closed yesterday, I woke up this morning to a blue sky, white fluffy clouds and a gentle breeze. Perfect weather to drive to the airport and get my flight. I was raging ... two hours later it was chucking it down and gale force winds. I think it's called the calm before the storm.
I hope your friends and family aren't affected. It is south of the eye that gets hit the hardest.

Friends in Toowong, family at Carindale & Sunnybank Hills. All on ground above flood levels thankfully. Brisbane has creeks & rivers everywhere, there was flooding everywhere back in 2011. Hope you & yours are ok, urbanblue, you’re right on the frontline where you live.

Looks like Byron Bay (I think that's just up the coast from you) has already flooded and the cyclone hasn't even made landfall. I hope you and all friends and relatives keep safe.
Over here in WA it's 33c and we haven't seen a cloud for a couple of weeks - but we've all got friends/colleagues over in Qld/NSW and it's a worrying time.

The weather bureau were predicting 800mm of rain for northern NSW. That is an insane amount of rainfall. The UK goes into full panic mode if we get 50mm! I can't even begin to imagine what that is like.
