Retreat East - anyone been? 13:00 - Jun 3 with 842 views | nrb1985 | Hello - my parents have a significant anniversary coming up and are Bury based. As such, want to get them a nice gift. I'm not local anymore so no idea if it's good but keep seeing "Retreat East" pop up on my socials and in the broadsheets (Sunday Times etc). Online reviews look good too. Has anybody been? If so, any thoughts? My main concern is it looks quite "trendy" and both my parents are now 70 - so wondering if it's age appropriate or not. Looks to have kind of Soho House vibes almost. Any help or alternative suggestions gratefully received! Thanks :)

Maison Bleue has always been my favourite and would probably be best for older folk, very traditional but very good food. Peas Porridge and 1921 are excellent too, but my recent favourite is Lark opposite the Abbey Gardens. Lark is very small though and could feel a bit boisterous to some. Incredible food though

Ended up getting a refund last time and a gift voucher. The Marquis a better alternative, especially on a sunny day. Maison Bleue the best in Bury by some distance in my opinion.

Thanks - that's what I thought. Probably not appropriate sadly then :( They know the Bury restaurant scene well, they are foodies to some degree and have lived there almost 20 years. So while that's nice - I wanted to give them a weekend away/experience ideally. Not heard of The Lark - might give it a try next time I'm back. Albeit, boisterous and my Dad's temperamental knock off Chinese hearing aid might not necessarily go hand in glove...

If they are foodies try the Seasonal Tasting menu at Forage Kitchen in Rougham (Blackthorpe House). Exquisite food, great staff and a very friendly environment..
