As we stand... 09:35 - Aug 26 with 1510 views | Guenchev_Boncho | We all know we need at least 2 signings this week, arguably 4. We won't be at our best again Saturday - but hopefully we will be good enough to get us to 5 points. Not an ideal start, but enough points to stay in touch, and also get a boost into the intl break. Things will look a lot better with 3 points and 3 good signings. Lose, and make poor signings (or none!) and there is a real possibility that we don't get going in September and play-offs become our best shot. With the homegrown rule - if we sell Wolfy my understanding is that we will then need to keep Cam H as he will be our only homegrown player? Is that correct? Regardless - I think we all agree that selling Wolfy would be a bad move for us in this window. My final point is on Lee Grant. Did we bring in a replacement? His departure is not the only reason we are struggling, but with how poor the front five have been so far it would be foolish to think it hasn't had a negative impact. I am optimistic we will look back on August as a tough period where we stuck at it and ground out points and finally managed to get the right balance of the squad. This feels like its been a steep learning curve for MA, and KM. They have shown previously that they can both roll their sleeves up and get us where we need to be. I have my fingers crossed.

We need one position filled, tho that might be Walle Egeli if he comes, plus Akpom could cover up top. But what we really need (as per your 5th para) is to get what we have functioning better. Particularly in the area of shooting on target. These are experienced goalscorers at this level. They have the techniques in their lockers. It seems more a matter of getting their heads into the right place to let that come out. Which is a matter of training, not accumulating yet more bodies in the building when there is a limit to the available squad size. We don't stop having to pay players just because they aren't registered. Fair enough if we can hire better players for a particular role, but getting more signings increases the workload, because we have to then find places for existing squad memebers to go and play football (where they will actually agree to the transfer).

Getting proven strikers is often difficult and no guarantee either - I mean Connor Wickham is not even with a team at the moment. We now have the chance for three wins on the bounce.....trust the process and remember Leeds were in same position two years ago

I feel like we've all debated long and hard about signings - roll on September! I agree with your point about accumulating bodies, but we shouldn't go into the season with JC, AM, JT and CH as the centre mid's, so will need one more there. We will also need a CF. So there's the 2 (for me), and then any additional signings might be to cover potential outgoings AAH, Wolfy etc. This international break is probably going to be the most important two weeks of the season. Drilling in that instinct of knowing where each other are going to be in any given moment or situation of a football match.

So let's do that and imagine most players would Ipswich are labelled as favourites for the title We have KM who was seen as the next big thing 2 promotions behind him Developed two players and got profits on both. Both are back in the prem We have plenty of cash Suffolk itself is nice for some to live In We played exciting football scored shed load of goals in our promotion seasons We rotate the squad alot meaning lots of playing time Wonderful pitches A need to enhance the squad How with all of that do we then struggle... Ceo being to tight? Werhun not doing a good job All of the above isn't attractive We've gone for the wrong players Our profiling is terrible I know it's not fm and the usual response about the window not seemingly going well. But I genuinely don't understand why we've struggled.

I don't think that's a particularly bad CM lineup at this level. Especially when you also have the likes of Chaplin as a roving distributor and much of our work done down the flanks anyway.

As we stand... on 12:22 - Aug 26 by bsw72 | I still maintain it's 90% about confidence, here is how I see it. We are not moving the ball quick enough, as a result we look pedestrian, players get closed down quicker and we fail to find space for a pass. We are not moving the ball quick enough because we are taking an extra touch, so 1 touch becomes 2, 2 becomes 3 etc, this gives the opposition time to close down and regroup. One/two touch football is very much instinctive and built on confidence. I genuinely think anything else is being over-analytical. I can hardly remember seeing seen us move the ball in a 1-touch sequence all season, and most of last season, players are scared to make a mistake and are being over-cautious. I feel like they are playing with a mental handbrake on . . . EDIT: For some reason I read FrimleyBlues post as struggling this season, not this window. My points still stand but not necessarily as a response to the post that I replied to. [Post edited 26 Aug 12:36]

There have been occasions in games where players have run forward a bit, then checked back. Rather than keeping going. Think that's a confidence matter as well, combined with supporting runners not going for it. Several times on Saturday, we had players advanced down the wing, pass to a support and run through, only to be ignored as the ball goes further back and round. Missed opportunities, IMO.

Doesn't make you thick and to your point we're an attractive opposition outside of the Premier League, hence Cajuste, Akpom etc have favoured us. its just the nature of the beast that is the transfer window. We want to sign players that are better than what we've got, upgrades on people like Taylor. As a consequence we're in the market for players that are probably on the radar of lower level premier league clubs and they're hard to do. The cross section between being upgrades on what we have and willing to join is relatively small, its not a case of signing anyone, we could do that easily. Look at Hackney, we were willing to pay big money, seemingly rolled the red carpet out and extended a contract that's likely far in excess of his Boro one, but he's happy to sit tight for a potential West Ham or other PL move and that's understandable.

During the international break at least 6, maybe more players will be away for most of it with their countries.
