I noticed Marti Pellow on the TV yesterday, you must be WELL old if he's considered modern!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

My heart missed a beat when I realise both Bryan Adam’s and Belinda Carlisle are in their 60s!

Charitable answer - genuine mistakr.
Less charitable answer - laziness.

Just looking at the line up, and I'm delighted to report that I feel too young to be at the event!

As an aside, what on earth are Suede doing on that line up though?!

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Suede were actually ok. Never seen them live. The best thing about the event is that I don’t feel really old as it’s fully of middle aged people. Even better is it’s under the Heathrow flight path so flight radar is in full use

The Manics were there last year or the year before. Radio 2 heavily push new albums by the likes of the Manics and Suede so they get some payback.

I love Suede, I'm just surprised they are on a Radio 2 festival line up!

yeah that one stuck out for me. Surely Suede are bigger than Def Leppard?! DL are the headliners and Suede bottom of the bill!

Suede have sold 3 million record worldwide. Def Leppard over 100 million.

Def Leppard were massive in the 80's and early 90's.

edit. Plus Suede may be elsewhere this evening or travelling somewhere for tomorrow.

I hate the phrase 'guilty pleasure', as it's usually used in association with great 80s pop music, so nothing to feel guilty about at all.

That said, the closest I have to a guilty pleasure is Def Leppard's Hysteria album. I love it, despite the unbelievably OTT production plus ridiculously cheesy and unsubtle innuendo in the lyrics, and still listen to it a lot now.

Almost everything else they did was pish, albeit big selling pish.

Mutt Lange produced wasn't it? I remember buying it and playing to to death in 1988. 7 singles taken from it which wasn't the norm back then.

I think only MJ's Bad outsold Hysteria that year.

Yep, Mutt Lange.

Famously, Kurt Cobain hated the production on Nevermind as he said it made them sound like Def Leppard, and if you listen to it you can hear a lot of the same production techniques, especially loads of multitracking vocals and guitars.

The line-up presumably reflects the age and tastes of the average Radio 2 listener, whose age I put down at between roughly 35 and 55.

I know what Def Leppard were!

Must admit, I didn't know that about the sales, but I'm talking about who would be more popular now... as this bill is now. I may well be wrong as I'd have thought both would be old hat by now, but Suede were bigger more recently.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I'm within that age range but I wouldn't listen to any of those acts other than Suede and Stereophonics.
