Solidarity... on 16:53 - Sep 8 with 1446 views | Swansea_Blue | Must be a nightmare. For once I’m not on the side of the strikes. Not that I know a lot about it, other than they’re after a 4 day week through cutting hours. The only 4 day week I know is when you work longer hours per day to do your week’s hours in 4 days (that’s a good option imo). Cutting your hours is surely just part time work and so should have a pay cut. It’s possible I’m missing something, so happy to be corrected. It’s another world away from us over in west Wales.

I'm sure someone will correct me, but the nub of it is that the union wants a 32-hour, 4-day week, compared to the current 35 hour 5 day week. Apparently, the workers often work long shifts, but get the extra time they work back in holiday (on top of a generous holiday allowance). Here's some detail on tube driver earnings: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/transparency/freedom-of-information/foi-request-det although I believe this strike also involves non-driving staff, many of whom will be on a more measly salary starting in the 40s. Personally, I think they ought to look around outside their bubble and realise life isn't so bad, especially compared to the workers they're dicking over this week. Sorry. [Post edited 8 Sep 17:13]

Solidarity... on 19:59 - Sep 8 with 1029 views | Pendejo | My commute starts in inner SE London and heads out into Surrey via Croydon - no tube lines, so no issues. What I have found is that up til Croydon is relatively straightforward (other than road works especially 3 or 4 way lights), but beyond Croydon and into Sutton the additional traffic during school term adds 30 minutes to my journey. Grumble grumble
