As Positivity mentions Clarke taking that penalty mat that point in the Derby game was brave. Earns a lot of respect that. Jaden nearly got going a couple of times last season and then got injured at the wrong time. | |

Confidence is crucial in sport as it is in life. The team blossomed with it as the game progressed last night, just as Sheffield United fell away without it.
It’s easy to forget when the witless are slagging off players that they are human beings too. Some are strangers and people in new environments settle at different rates. For me, it’s obvious that both Philogene and Clarke are seriously talented. They were two of the division’s best players only 18 months ago and it really isn’t their fault if a club chooses to spend money on them.
The key to players is not just encouragement, confidence and talent though. It’s the framework in which they play and looking at the team last night, there were some seriously good players for this level behind them. Some of whom are just finding their feet too including serious options coming off the bench.
You plonk a player like Nunez in the middle constantly probing, pushing forward, drawing in opponents and all of a sudden, spaces open. It’s very early days but all in all, we are seeing a potentially devastating team for this level begin to form.
Lastly, a special shout out for Furlong. He was excellent. I noticed him when he played against us for West Brom not least because I remember his dad. I thought then what a good footballer junior Furlong was and so he is. |  | | |
