No doubt about Yeltsin being a Red, but it still makes me smile that he regularly went to Anfield to watch Liverpool. @1:14

This match was closer in time to us winning the UEFA Cup than today is to Danny Haynes scoring the winner with his arm at Carrow Road.

Great goal, how the heck did we win that. Fowler, Owen, Heskey is some striker choice.

The fact that we were playing on a surface that looked more like a field than a football pitch may have hindered Liverpool more than us.

I remember it well, we were putting up our Christmas tree listening on Suffolk radio when the goal went in.
Notably Michael Owen missed a sitter because he used his "stronger" right foot to shoot well wide when it was a much easier chance had he used his left foot. Whereas Marcus a left footer scored easily with his right foot. Classic example of working on your "weaker" foot is well worth while.
I often wondered if this was pointed out to Owen as a few weeks later he scored a cracking goal for England with his left foot.
Great tackle from John McGreal to stop Heskey scoring as well.

When Town saw the Liverpool team sheet, they saw Heskey (12 goals in 12 games at the time) & Gerrard had been left on the bench & thought "we've got a bit of a chance here". And so it proved.
Houllier took us a lot more seriously in the return fixture at Portman Road & was happy to come away with a draw.

Damn, 25 years.
Had to catch a 'football special' bus full of angry home fans after the match. I was the last to arrive so had held everyone up and was completely bedecked in blue. Driver wasn't happy about letting me on but thankfully my scouser mate who had been in the home end helped persuade him not to leave me stranded alone in Anfield. I had to sit on the top deck right at the front and spent an excruciating hour or so with 50-odd pairs of eyes staring daggers at the back of my head (or that's what it felt like). I just stared at the floor and didn't say a word and managed to stay out of trouble, all the while trying to keep the exhilaration and adrenaline under wraps. Every so often someone would approach me as they left the bus but all such occasions were just to congratulate me. Amazing day.

Fair play to the Scousers - most of them usually appreciate the fact when their team is beaten fair & square (Everton fans much less so).

Also, that was the only game Liverpool lost at Anfield all season! On MOTD, Gary Lineker had a field day saying how good Ipswich were and how poor Liverpool were while Mark Lawrenson sat looking very annoyed and refusing to speak about the game at all, brilliant stuff. TWTD's.

Always been good at the bantz, has Lineker. Good lad.

Harsh... we played some terrific football that season. I remember a match against Charlton where it was one end to the other, great passing goal. Oh and don't forget THAT Wilnis goal.
