Looks interesting, but I'd be keen to see how the groups pan out in reality, and how the qualifying process would work for Group 2 teams. The cynic in me thinks it's only going to reduce the likelihood of bigger countries such as Italy failing to qualify in future.
It's a shame for the minnows of European football as well - they'll no longer have their big days out against the European giants. |  |

After ruminating on it, I definitely think it's an improvement.
I take back my comment about it favouring the big teams as well - the new UCL format has seen some notable early departures in recent years. No more groups decided by which of the two big teams sticks the most past Andorra. | |

Sounds ridiculously convoluted. Why not use the Nations League as a qualifier for the lower ranked nations, and the winners of the groups take part on qualifying proper? | |
