If we can't get Palacios 16:29 - Aug 11 with 882 viewsCheltenham_Blue

And if we've bid, then we must of heard positive noises from agent or player, but assuming it doesn't happen there are a couple of players I'd like to see us try for if we are looking for statement signings like Palacious.

1. Ensico - I think this happens, think we are likely down to the final negotiations with Blueco on this.

2. if not Palacios how about Koopmeiners, apparently available from Juve at about €30m or, probably easier to do, Fofana from AC Milan. Palace and Forest have enquired but not progressed. AC Milan open to moving him on at around €20m

Poll: If we were to spend £200m would you rather

You’d have thought we would have had positive vibes yes. Phils story indicates that even if a bid is accepted he might not want to come. I can’t imagine for one second we would do business like that personally. With that in mind we’ll either get it done or we’re being used as bargaining chip by club/agents who are overstating our actual position.

You're absolutely right, there's no way the club would go to any effort on negotiating a price without knowing that the player would be open to the move.

Otherwise it's just a complete waste of everyone's time when it's so important not to be wasting time.

That's different to him saying "I'd prefer to go to a more established club" which may of course be true, but if we're the only offer on the table, then he's probably open to it.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if Palacios does (reluctantly) end up here in a few weeks, at least he is in the best shop window for himself to be noticed by the top six or so for any possible future transfers. Personally if he doesn't really want to come and play then give him a miss.

We don't know that he doesn't though. The quote was unattributed and the fact we made an initial bid, suggests we have different information.

Its not implausible that after telling us there could be interest, the quote was leaked in an attempt to encourage clubs further up the tree to put a bid in.

There is also a big difference between "doesnt want to come" and "believes he could go to a larger club".

Lets be honest, it is unlikely to be his lifelong dream to play at Portman road, and therefore it's reasonable for him to want to weigh up his options before deciding where to go. Its also reasonable for us to move onto other targets if that takes more time than we want, and equally if we reach the end of the month and we are each of our best options, it's reasonable to move ahead enthusiastically with his signing.
