What an excellent article, many thanks for posting.
Good to see an honourable mention of Akinfenwa too, he was always an inspirational player

Good on him. Can't read anything about him without thinking of his website now though. David Stockdale, friend first, boss second, probably an entertainer third.

My local club - been watching them for 30+ years and seen two liquidations. He is working hard to reconnect the club with the community - the previous owner alienated fans and many were left out of pocket. There is still some resentment with people not going because some of the previous directors are still in place. The Stockdales deserve credit for getting football back, albeit on the practice pitch at amateur level, but the ultimate test is to get the pitch sorted and the ground ready again for step 6 football - it currently looks like a bomb site - and there hasn't been a huge amount of communication about that beyond the usual ' plans are in place'.

Lovely article. It must have been tough dealing with the early downs, but it sounds like a real labour of love now and he’s turning it around. I’m not sure about a 3G pitch as a main pitch; I’d do it the other way around with a good grass pitch as the match day pitch and a 3G training facility that can be used in all weathers all the time. Do you think I should email him to let him know my thoughts?
