Whilst we, as a world, might be more resilient than in the past - the notion of 'multiple-events' is still relevant and could be difficult for us to negotiate.

Excellent article. The key similarity to our current times is interconnectivity - it only needs one (maybe two) things to go wrong and there are ramifications across a huge area. Those things could be economic, political, military or even natural hazard. Or a mix. The more interconnected the world, the more random / unconnected events have a symbiotic impact.

Interesting & thought provoking article thanks.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Not dissimilar to what is going on now.

The winding-up of coal and the oil crisis in the Middle East led to the end of ultra-cheap fuel, making manufacturing less lucrative. Overreach in the now-dominant Western banking sector led to the collapse of 2008-09 and the end of cheap credit. Climate and political changes have led to a wave of migration, which the money is no longer there to handle. Populations are coming under economic pressure from the financial and migration situations, leading to greater unrest. Nationalism and balkanisation are breaking down the larger units which can use economies of scale to deal with these issues, which inhibit conflict and which promote trade.

Governments are under severe pressure, heavily indebted, unable to afford necessary policies, running out of any but the most drastic options.

However, we do have the advantage of highly sophisticated technology which really does have the capability to reshape the world (if we can afford it) - something neither the Late Bronze Age empires nor the 5th century Romans could do.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?
