Bit of a Catch 22 really 12:56 - May 23 with 515 views | Darth_Koont | You keep to a longer schedule to ensure the best and widest range of candidates but risk that one or more of those gets poached along the way. Or you find a candidate that you like and go for them straightaway. But I think Evans had already achieved the first part (bar Hurst) so would have been acceptable to cut short the search at the end of last week. Hopefully, instead of Ross being the big missed opportunity, Hurst and others are still genuinely at the top of list.

Bit like looking for a replacement car. See one you like the look of at a good price, spend too long thinking about it and find it has been sold. Guess Marcus hasn't been devoting enough time to the task.

There's certainly an argument for identifying someone and going after them. But we've done that before with Keane, Jewell and McCarthy and only the last one worked out. So I quite like the idea that Evans has been able to speak to lots of different types of candidate and seen who puts their name forward for the job. Maybe 2nd or 3rd choice out of 100 relatively serious candidates is better than going for number 1 of a much more limited range of options? I do think Ross would have been very near the top either way. Which is a b«gger.
