This debate about where our goals are coming from... 11:44 - Aug 10 with 1321 viewsSuperfrans

Actually, when you look a little deeper at the stats, the strategy from Hurst is clear.

The 5 creative/goalscoring players we have lost contributed 46 goals and 23 assists last season.
The 5 players we have gained contributed 54 goals and 39 assists to their teams last season. (albeit in lower divisions, of course).

The players we have brought in have been recruited to both score and make goals. Very different to last season's match-winners (Waghorn aside). And this is without counting any additional striker we might bring in.

Kayden Jackson - 16 goals / 16 assists
Ellis Harrison - 14 / 5
Jon Nolan - 10 / 7
Jordan Roberts - 7 / 6
Gwion Edwards - 7 / 5

Waghorn - 16 / 13
Garner - 10 / 3
McGoldrick - 8 / 5
Celina - 8 / 1
Connolly - 4 / 1

People seem to have trouble grasping that other players other than strikers can score goals too!

If nothing else, his highlights reel showed how slow/poor L2 central defenders were last season!

The one flaw in your argument is “Lower leagues”. No matter how you paint it.. it’s easier for any player to score or assist in the lower leagues and also to score or assist in winning teams.

Let’s hope they all manage to improve their games enough perform against better, quicker, more talented players week in, week out.... but that’s not going to be the case for all of them, if any.

We need to hold our breath and hope PHs judgement is beyond what most championship managers have when picking players who can step up and improve significantly.

The best players don't find it that much harder to score in lower divisions than in the Championship (Gray, Vardy, Rhodes, McGoldrick and the like).

Good Lord! Whatever is it?
