Don't know if this has been discussed ... 21:46 - Nov 13 with 1675 viewsNthsuffolkblue

How many of our squad will need work permits after we leave the EU (assuming there is no deal that gives temporary residency rights) and will they get them?

Bart
Knudsen
Cotter (unless there are different rules for Ireland)

I wonder how that compares with other squads in our league. I presume (in a no deal situation) the Government would start deporting them mid-season, although the foreign office may be very busy at that point.

None if they reside here. Irish citizens already have the right to live, work, vote, stand for Parliament and so on within the U.K.

"If you’re a European Union (EU) citizen, you and your family will be able to apply to get either settled or pre-settled status. This will mean you can continue living in the UK after December 2020.

You will not need to apply if:
you’re an Irish citizen
you have indefinite leave to remain in the UK
you have indefinite leave to enter the UK - for example, you have a Returning Resident visa"

It's time to make the best of it.

A no-deal Brexit could work quite well for us, in that sense.

That's only if the deal is agreed though, isn't it?

I don't expect there will be a mess deportation of non British born Europeans either way to be honest. People from the continent freely settled here before we even joined the EU.

Plus the Tories business friends aren't going to let a significant % of their workforce walk away - they essentially buy their party policy through donations and various clubs anyway - they'll be doing their bets to ensure they get their best deal out of it regardless of what anyone else says or wants.

Never knew that about Irish citizens and standing for parliament.

I find it odd that they cannot apply until March 2019 … almost as if there is wriggle room for the rules to change.

Indeed.

It would be like deporting the Windrush generation or the ex-Gurkhas wouldn't it? ...

The only potential problem for Town is the proposal to reduce the number of non UK players in a EPL squad of 25 from 17 to 12.

We will find it difficult to keep our youngsters, although their value will no doubt rise significantly.

Not regarding the Irish situation. That is based on laws which go right back to the separation process from the UK and the formal creation of the Republic in 1949.
