...luckily it could never happen here and anyway even if it did if you aren't doing anything wrong and it helps to keep you safe!

Weren't you claiming China were hiding the true scale of the problem? Surely if control is the aim of the game it would be better to dramatise it?

Just the one case outside the quarantine zone....you believe that?

No but what difference does it make?

It doesn't really matter if they are concealing the scale of the infections now. It mattered 3 months ago and even then they would have pretty much done the same things.

What matters now is the accuracy of reporting outside China and the responses to that.

I still don't really get what your angle with all this is. Can you spell it out in nice clear paragraphs please?

Do you know there are over 900 thousand species of insect on the planet?

Nine hundred thousand.

And you stopped at a dozen or so.

Whatever weird piece of trolling you're attempting with this, I think you should probably know that it's definitely more 'Cruncher' standard than 'Bluefish'.

That's not relevant to the point i'm making. What i'm saying is that you appear to have two beliefs which are fairly contradictory:

1) China using the situation to increase control

2) China under reporting

How does lying about the scale of the problem help them seize more control? Surely they should be exaggerating numbers and really ramping up the fear if they want control?

Truly impaired.

The two are not mutually exclusive, information gatherers tend to keep the facts to themselves because 'knowledge is power', even when it has been come by using dubious means. History is littered with examples of information being suppressed in circumstances of mass death - the West Bengal Famine for a start.

He's talking about using fear to increase control but he's also saying they are down playing the problem.

I think those two things are contradictory.

Try to imagine for one moment that there is no hidden angle!

If you overplay your hand and make the problem too big and scary then people can just give up, say what the feck and now that we are done for we might as well party. To have fear playing subliminally on a population they need to be kept on their toes with new threats perceived as previously publicised threats can no longer be sustained. I have yet to visit China but I do not like what I hear about it sometimes.
