- Colchester looked weaker/slower than last season's pre-season (albeit we beat them by more goals last time)
- our players in general looked technically sharp, in terms of ball control, off the ball movement and control; which is good this early on
- for all the good pass execution, the problem last season became apparent, especially in the second game, that when the opposition sat a little deeper, we started to pass sideways and ineffectively, and the pace of passing meant we didn't stretch the opposition and looked a little toothless
- in the first game the more aggressive movement of bishop and in part Edwards, pulled the colchester about and made space and provided service to Drinan
- similarly Dobra, KVY and El Mizouni provided running and dynanism which colchester really struggle with
- KVY (apart from finishing), Wolfenden and El Mizouni were stand out performers
- I also thought Huws for a deeper midfielder was a little more direct in his passing, less sideways
- Judge showed his value, and perhaps silenced a few critics, looked higher level

In short only pre-season, long way to go, but we need a bishop/judge in the team behind the forward/forwards... we need an other element of pace than KVY in the team

Bring on Spurs

Beat them by more goals last time? 5-0 wasn't it? Which was what it was after about 90 minutes this time?

I understand people trying to get insights from the game as that's all we've had for five months but it was a fitness exercise, nothing more.

Colchester were in the play offs and had already had a friendly so they should be fitter.

Truly impaired.

Colchester's squad is obviously not as big, so to find two players for every position was always going to be a big ask. It's hard to think of two proper strikers, let alone four.

The actual first team is probably slightly weaker at the moment though. Since this time last year KVY, Noublé, and Jackson have all left for league 1 clubs, plus two in-their-prime players to League 2.

On the other hand, Callum Harriot has arrived, and Poku and Bramall have to some degree made names for themselves and it'll be a surprise if they're still playing league 2 in a year from now, even if they seem to have not made much impression last night.

It was a pity McGavin only had cameo roles last night. As a Colchester supporter I'd love to see him come on loan. (For many of us, his father is up there as a contender for favourite ever player.)
